Top Ten Tuesday 13: Books about Friendship

ttt

created over at Broke and the Bookish, every week, there is a new “top ten” to list! This week’s feature is books about friendship

1. Harry Potter

hp1

Especially the first, Third and Final books. This is one of the best series for teaching children the ins and outs of friendships, realistically. Friends will fight and walk away, but they will also come back if they truly care. They will not try to change you to fit their ideal, but accept you as you are.

There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other,

and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.”

2. Code Name Verity

cnv

Hands down one of the best female friendships I have ever read about. Entirely believable and heart-wrenching.

It’s like being in love, discovering your best friend

3. The Fellowship of the Ring

tfotr

I am not a fan of LOTR, I couldn’t get through the second book. However, Frodo and Sam are one of the best Bromances I have ever read.

You can trust us to stick to you through thick and thin – to the bitter end. And you can trust us to keep any secret of yours – closer than you yourself keep it. But you cannot trust us to let you face trouble alone, and go off without a word. We are your friends, Frodo. Anyway: there it is. We know most of what Gandalf has told you. We know a good deal about the ring. We are horribly afraid–but we are coming with you; or following you like hounds”

4. The Help

thks

Watching the friendships grow in this book is a beautiful thing.

All my life I’d been told what to believe about politics, coloreds, being a girl.

But with Constantine’s thumb pressed in my hand,

I realized I actually had a choice in what I could believe.”

5. A Little Princess

alp

While this is primarily about a little girl trying to struggle through a drastic change while her dad has disappeared to

the war front, I believe it is also about the one friendship she has and the comfort she finds in it after being left alone for a long time.

6. The Secret Garden

tsg

This is the more obvious work by the previous author which is certainly about friendship.

7. The Hunger Games

ttvday thg

If anyone even needs to ask why friendship is a HUGE element in this book, then you need to re-read it or go home.

Kind people have a way of working their way inside me and rooting there

8. The Book Thief

tbt

A snowball in the face is surely the perfect beginning to a lasting friendship

9. Percy Jackson (And the Olympians/Heroes of Olympus)

pjo

You are not going to die while I owe you a favor,” I said. “Why did you take that knife?”
“You would’ve done the same for me.”
It was true. I guess we both knew it. Still, I felt like somebody was poking my heart with a cold metal rod.”

10. Northanger Abbey

na1

There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends.

I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature

What are your favourite books/series which feature friendships?

Oh wow! I love your list. We have many similarities this week. The Book Thief is an excellent choice.

Haha thanks 🙂 there are so many good friendships represented in the YA books, its nice to focus on that aspect instead of romance for a change (more books should, imo!)

I agree with so many of your choices, especially The Book Thief and Percy Jackson. I love the friends in Heroes of Olympus!

  3. What a great list! HP, of course, and I love that you included Code Name Verity and Fellowship of the Ring (I had these too!) — plus so many other that are terrific choices!
