Austen August: Final Update!

p&penl

It’s the 31st August which means “Austen August”, my first ever hosted read-a-long is officially over! With the final chapter summaries all posted on the goodreads group, and all four intended books surrounding Austen read, I’m pretty happy with my personal progress- what about you guys!?

I may do another Austen August next year, depending on how busy I am, which will be around Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, if anyone will be interested in that.  I will be leaving the goodreads group for the Pride and Prejudice read-a-long up and active so that anyone who is a fan of the book can go back to the boards at any time and fangirl over the book with others, or re-read the chapter summaries. So if you are a little behind on the read-a-long and haven’t finished yet- don’t worry, the summaries and discussion boards aren’t going anywhere!

My personal page total for Austen August stands at exactly 1424 pages- I was pretty busy this week so I didn’t get too much read. However, I did publish two reviews which are Austen August related- the links are as follows if you are interested!

1. Longbourn – Jo Baker, a re-telling of Pride and Prejudice through the eyes of the Longbourn Servants

2. Midnight in Austenland– Shannon Hale, the sequel of “Austenland”

3. The Mysterious Death of Miss Austen– Lindsay Ashford

4. Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen (Review to Come)

Austen August: Week 3 update!

p&penl

Here we are, on day 17 and the end of week 3 of Austen August- I hope you are all still enjoying the read-a-long. How is your progress going so far? Are you happy or struggling with it?  I’m finding I’m getting a little bit frustrated myself in a while, just with moderating the board. It’s taking me a lot of time and energy to actually sit down and write the chapter summaries, when it would be so much quicker to just read it. And most of the time only one or two people are interacting on the boards… To those who’ve moderated read-a-thons, how much interaction to you expect or find you get from participants in these things? I feel like despite the great number of members in the group, I was too optimistic at how much activity would actually take place on the boards…

Anyway, back onto the positive: currently my page total for Austen August stands at exactly 1000 pages, and once I have done today’s chapters, it will stand at 1015 pages, which I am happy with.

Austen August Read-a-long: update 4- It’s nearly here!

p&penl

In just FIVE days, I will be opening my copy of pride and prejudice, reading 2 chapters, and posting the chapter summaries to tempt discussions on the goodreads group!  This read-a-long and the group is open to anyone and everyone who fancies re-reading this book along with the other three I will be reading in the month of August, so feel free to join in! We already have 33 members which is amazing because I only ever thought maybe six people would want to join me in this, I’m so excited to see how many people are interested in doing this!

The read-a-long will last from 1st August- 31st August,

Austen August Read-a-Long: Update 2

p&penl

It’s time for the second update in regards to the read-a-long I am hosting in August of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

We have 28 members in the goodreads group, which is absolutely fantastic!

We have some interesting discussions taking place on the various boards, including recommendations, favourite characters, and general introductions! Everybody is basically geeking out over Austen and it is wonderful! As usual, if you know of anyone who may be interested in participating in this read-a-long, spread the message far and wide! It’s open to everyone!

As well as re-reading Pride and Prejudice throughout the month of august, I will also be reading three other books. I recently received my copy of “Midnight in Austenland” , the sequel to Shannon Hale’s hilarious “Austenland” (click to see my review), so I figured I would add that to the month of reading, and that is my August TBR. So, in August I will be reading:

So if anyone also owns these books and wishes to read those along with me, along with the p&p re-read, let me know! I’ll be setting up boards for each of the three extra “Austen” books if you are interested!

Hope you’re all well!                                                                               18 days to go!

Austen August Read-a-Long: Update 1

p&penl

Since I decided to dedicate Sundays to “Austen August”posts, I figured I’d start now and just provide weekly updates on how things are going. For those who have no idea what I’m on about, the introduction post is HERE.

Basically in August, I will be hosting a read-a-long of Pride and Prejudice! Everybody and Anybody is welcome to join in, I have also set up a goodreads group page. Tell everybody because it’s going to be fun! The read-a-long will take place throughout the entire month of august, starting on 1st-31st August. More of the intial details in the introduction post, linked above.

It’s looking promising so far, the goodreads group has 27 members and the general introductions board is already flowing with love for this novel. We  have a couple of Austen newbies on the board,  who are choosing to read the novel with us for the very first time, very exciting! I’ve had a couple of people say they also want to read the other books I will be reading in the month, which are Austen based (The Mysterious Death of Miss Austen, and Longbourn), so if you would like to do so, again feel free!

I’m very excited by the number of people who have shown interest in this, I was only expecting maybe five or six to want to participate! I’m floored that there are 27 people who want to at least give it a go! I’m toying with the idea of doing another read-a-long if this one is successful, maybe for Northanger Abbey or Jane Eyre towards November/December…

Austen August- a Read-A-Long Proposal

p&penl

Ahhhh it’s that time of year again. Cloudy English Summertime, where the heat is too hot and sticky to actually do anything apart from sit on the couch or in the garden, perfect reading weather. I always seem to get bitten by the Jane Austen bug around this time of year, which is hilarious considering I loathed studying Austen in sixth form.
